Why You Should Use Natural Shampoo
, by Claudia Rusic
Do you want healthy hair and skin? Then you should consider using a natural shampoo rather than a toxic chemical hair product. The vast majority of shampoo products that you buy in the drug store or even in the salon are filled with chemicals that are highly toxic and will eventually enter your blood stream.
Even though shampoo products are used on the hair and skin, they are still absorbed into the body. This is because with repeated exposure, the skin allows chemicals to enter the body. Think of putting lotion on your skin to hydrate it. Your skin absorbs the moisture in the lotion and it is no different with the chemicals that are contained in shampoos.
Most commercially produced shampoos and conditioners contain numerous toxic chemicals that are absorbed through the scalp. These toxins eventually travel to the liver and can cause liver damage. This can become very dangerous.
Toxins can also travel into your blood stream and can affect your kidneys, heart and other organ systems throughout the body. With time, you can actually experience toxic poisoning simply because you are using commercial shampoos and other skin care products that contain dangerous chemicals.
Here is a list of commonly found chemicals in commercial shampoos:
Sodium Laurel Sulfate
This chemical is found in almost all commercially made shampoos and is responsible for the foaming action of the shampoo. But it is also used as a degreasing agent in the car industry. Common SLS toxicity symptoms include skin irritation, eye irritation, reproductive problems, endocrine system toxicity and cancer.
This chemical is commonly used in not only shampoos, but also in almost all commonly produced beauty and makeup products. It has been linked to cancer and to breast cancer, in particular.
According to the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, DEA is contained in approximately 42 percent of all shampoo products sold. This chemical is related to problems absorbing choline, which is necessary in healthy brain development in fetuses.
Although MSG has long been associated with being contained in processed foods, what many people do not realize is that it is also commonly contained in shampoo products as a preservative. Common side effects of absorbing MSG include numbness, tingling, nausea, headaches and dizziness, just to name a few.
This chemical, commonly found in commercial shampoos, is also the active ingredient in automobile antifreeze, tire sealers, airplane de-icing agents, paints, enamels, adhesives and many other highly toxic products. The most compelling argument against this chemical in shampoos is that warning labels warn against skin contact with it because it not only is a strong skin irritant, but it can also cause liver damage.
With all of these dangerous ingredients commonly found in commercial shampoos, why would you use them on your hair and scalp? Before you reach for that bottle of shampoo in the shower, consider using a natural shampoo alternative that is made with only natural nonchemical ingredients. Not only will your hair smell great, but you’ll be healthier too.
